We often associate February as the love month. We tend to show more care, affection and support to our significant other, which we should really be doing all year around.
Who we don’t show enough love and care to, is ourselves.
This month, I challenge you to focus on yourself! Put yourself at the top of your priority list for once and show your mind, body and soul an abundance of love, care and support.
Start by deciding where your in busy schedule you can devote one hour of your time to your health and well being. This is an hour without any distractions. No technology(unless watching or reading something), no children and no to-do lists.
TIP: I have found that I am more likely to follow through with my plans if I do them first thing in the morning! I wake up 1 hour earlier than I need to for work to make time for myself and start my day off on a positive and happy note.
Once you have decided where you can spare time in your schedule for yourself, you need to create a Self- Care Plan. A Self-Care plan, is a way that you can stay accountable to your schedule and needs on a regular basis. By having a plan in play, you will be more likely to follow through with your intentions. Your plan can be done on a daily or weekly basis and should include 1 hour of activities which bring you happiness and peace.
I encourage you to follow the 20/20/20 planning rule.
This will allow you to cover all aspects of your well being.
20 minutes of nourishing the mind
20 minutes of nourishing the body
20 minutes of nourishing the soul
1 hour of self- care
Self Care Plan - 1 hour breakdown
Spend 20 minutes of your hour self-care routine nourishing your MIND. You can do this by meditating, keeping a journal, reading a book, colouring, learning a new language or listening to low tempo music.
Spend 20 minutes of your hour self-care routine nourishing your BODY. You can do this by exercise, practicing yoga, dancing it out, stretching or drinking a herbal tea from start to finish(still warm) without any interruptions.
Spend 20 minutes of your hour self-care routine nourishing your SOUL.
You can do this by practicing a new instrument, by baking or cooking some for fun, not because you have to. You can also write a letter to an old friend ( make sure you mail it) or listening to an information podcast or documentary.
By nourishing your mind, body and soul, you will see a reduction of stress, improved mood, increase in energy and a better over-all attitude. So, put yourself first this month and make time to do things that nourishing your mind, body and soul. Make sure that the activities you choose to practice are for you and you only. For at least one hour of your day, do things not out of obligations or demand, but rather for peace and balance.
You deserve at least one hour of your day to connect with yourself.
Make it count.
